Autumn in New England Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine

October 2 - October 10, 2008 * 9 days - 8 nights

Journey to New England, the birthplace of our country!  Feel history come alive in Boston, Lexington, and Concord where the American Revolution began.  Hear how Colonial patriots risked their lives to insure independence that later would guarantee rights granted in the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights.  Stroll the decks of the USS Constitution and see her in all her glory, walk on the “Freedom Trail,” or visit the numerous historical sights in this dynamic city.

See the splendors of the colorful Berkshires, the Green Mountains and snowcapped White Mountains.  We’ll even take the Cog Railway up to the top of Mount Washington in NH!

Travel back in time while visiting the many museums, galleries and staying in a few 19th century Inns.  Enjoy a dinner cruise on Lake Champlain and a chartered sail on a 1912 Vintage Schooner in Portland, Maine.  And top it all off with a New England tradition - the Lobster Bake!

9 Day - 8 Night Autumn in New England Itinerary

includes all tours and activities listed here:

Day 1 - October 2   Depart Salem to Portland Airport for Alaska non-stop flight to Boston.  Welcome to Boston, the first stop on your New England adventure!  Upon arrival we transfer to the Radisson Hotel, located right on Boston Common, then we will have a wonderful Welcome Dinner at the hotel.  (L-plane D) Radisson Hotel

Day 2 - October 3   Today you can choose to do as much or as little as you please.  You will be given a ticket for the Old Town Trolley Tour which is Boston’s most comprehensive fully narrated tour. There are 18 stops in which you are free to get on and off at your leisure, like Quincy Market and Faneuil Hall, the historic North End, the USS Constitution, Cambridge and exclusive stops at the Paul Revere House, the Old North Church and Fenway Park!  Today dinner will be on your own at one of the many diverse restaurants near the hotel.  (B) Radisson Hotel

Day 3 - October 4   As we leave the city and follow the route of Paul Revere’s famous ride to Lexington and Concord, we will stop at the Minute Man Visitor Center where you will hear and “see” a Colonist telling of the events that led up to the American Revolution.  Then walk on Concord’s Old North Bridge where the “shot heard around the world” was fired.  This area is also home to Ralph Waldo Emerson, Henry David Thoreau, Nathaniel Hawthorne and Louisa May Alcott.  We continue west to historic Deerfield  plus we will stop at the huge Yankee Candle Factory where you will have time for lunch on your own, shopping and candle dipping!  We then will check into the lovely Williams Inn in Williamstown, MA and have a fabulous dinner  (BD) Williams Inn

Day 4 - October 5   First stop- historic Bennington, Vermont where we will see the Bennington Battle Monument paying tribute to the Green Mountain Boys.  We then visit the Bennington Museum which houses American craftwork, one of the oldest “stars and strips” and the largest public collection of original Grandma Moses artwork!  Next we continue to Manchester and tour the magnificent mansion “Hildene” the home of Robert Todd Lincoln, son of Abraham and Mary Todd Lincoln.  We will enjoy a box lunch in the garden.  We continue on to Middlebury to have a short walking tour, refreshments, dinner and entertainment all in this 1827 Inn!  (BLD) Middlebury Inn    

Day 5 - October 6   Picture stop at one of the many covered bridges in New England! Afterward we will tour the beautiful UVM Morgan Horse Farm then continue to the Shelburne Museum, one of the finest and most diverse museums of art and Americana sitting on 45 acres with 39 exhibition buildings, including the historic steamship Ticonderoga!  An incredible place where a shuttle is available for transportation and box lunches will be provided.  Next, the Spirit of Ethan Allen III plated Dinner Cruise on beautiful Lake Champlain.(BLD) Sheraton Burlington

Day 6 - October 7   A stop at Cold Hollow Cider Mill is where you may see apples being pressed, sample cider and many maple goodies as well!  Next tour the Cabot Creamery,Tillamook’s rival on the east coast, and do lots of cheese sampling!  We’ll stop in St. Johnsbury for lunch and then make our way into New Hampshire for the highlight of the day - the Mount Washington Cog Railway.  This historic steam train will climb to the 6,288’ summit of Mount Washington where the views are fantastic going up the mountain and spectacular at the top on a clear day.  We then make our way to Conway for the night at the tranquil Merrill Farm Resort, located on the banks of the Saco River.  Dinner nearby at a great seafood restaurant.  (BLD) Merrill Farm Resort

Day 7 - October 8   Today we stop at two beautiful covered bridges on the Saco River.  The highlight for the day will be our private sail aboard the Wendameen, an 88-foot, 1912 Vintage Schooner in Portland, Maine.  Here we will sail the sparkling waters of Casco Bay while enjoying the beauty of the islands and coastline, including Portland Head Light.  Lunch will be provided on board, then afterward we will continue our tour of Portland and visit this historic lighthouse.  We then make our way to Kennebunkport for our two-night stay at the Colony Hotel.  Dinner will be on your own tonight either at the hotel or one of its local restaurants.  (BL) The Colony Hotel

Day 8 - October 9   Since we are staying two nights at the fabulous Colony Hotel please take today at leisure.  After breakfast, take an ocean-side stroll just across the street.  Or recline in one of the hotel lounge chairs - the ocean view is so relaxing, or take a swim in the hotel pool.  If you would like, we will provide a predetermined transfer  to Dock Square for shopping and/or lunch.  Tea Service is provided in the afternoons at the hotel.  This evening at the hotel we will have our Farewell Dinner, a traditional Maine Lobster Bake!  (BD) The Colony Hotel

Day 9 - October 10   As we depart Kennebunkport we will follow Ocean Drive to Walker’s Point - the summer home of former President George Bush.  We’ll make our way to Cape Neddick to see the Nubble Light House and then have lunch before making our way back to Boston’s Logan Airport for our flight home.  (BL D-plane)

  • Incidentals, any personal charges for room service, local or long distance calls, excess luggage fees, gratuities for meals/activities while on your own, or any other charges or fees not listed in the “included tour price”
  • Gratuities for the coach driver are voluntary and should be given individually upon completion of the tour  Customary gratuity for a driver is $ 3.00 - $ 5.00 per person per day.

  • Deposit of $200 per person will secure a reservation and fully refundable until July 28, 2008

CANCELLATION POLICY

  • Deadline for cancellation and full refund of all monies paid  is July 28, 2008
    Travel Insurance is non-refundable.
  • After July 28, 2008 - cancellation penalty of 20% of tour price in non-refundable, you get 80% back
  • After August 28, 2008 -  cancellation penalty of 70% of tour price is non-refundable, you get 30% back
  • After September 24, 2008 - cancellation penalty of 100% of tour price is non-refundable, no refund - 0 back
